The grade of today’s walk is a gentle descent for nearly the entire way on a road that transitions from pavement to gravel early on. The views of the nearby mountains, fields, and pastures are captivating and the stage passes quickly.
Soon the first views of the Pacific Ocean are encountered depending on cloud cover and haze.
Note: While the tiny village of Naranjillo is a very nice destination, most hikers combine this stage with the next one and hike on to Esquipulas or Villa Nueva. Naranjillo itself is not actually on the trail and involves a one kilometer steep descent into a valley to reach. Most hikers combine stages 13 and 14, or stages 14 and 15.
